Personal Story and Writing Philosophy

My name is Jacob Dammons, I'm writing this blog post to discuss who I am and where I come from. I'm from Detroit, Michigan. Child of a single mother. One older sister. Grew up in a house of women, lack of a father figure in my life. I was fairly isolated in the dark and didn't know myself very well. In 2013, Steven Universe came out and through that show I was able to discover who I was. I figured out I was gay that year and later found out I was actually bi. I got in touch with my emotions and feelings and that's always what I come back to with my writing. And on the topic of my writing, I want to get right into how I develop my characters and writing. My core writing philosophy. I break characters into two axes of behavior. Those two axes I find are goals and interests/kinks. A goal is what pushes and drives a person, a character each and every day. Where they want to go in life. What pushes them and keeps them moving forward. An interest, a kink is someth...

Current Projects

1. Nickelodeon Writing Project: Pick out two series from the Accepted Shows List, one live action and one animation, and make the best SPECs I can. For my first SPEC I've chosen Bob's Burgers. I'm into food a lot and it is a major influence in my behavior and sexuality. I have anxiety about food, food creates euphoria, my brain is always drawn towards where the food is. My heart yearns for my stomach to be filled. And so I can relate to the main character Bob Belcher for his affinity with food. My writing specialty is dealing with explorations of sexuality so I want to tap into motivations for how we can show Bob to have a bi experience on screen. His own food seems to be a primary motivator for how he operates. If someone were to sexually interact with his food in front of him, I think it would stand to reason he'd be compelled to join in. After he calls and contacts Linda of course. And this sort of queer experience ties into what I enjoy, I'm into bears....

Screenwriting Journey

As a programmer, which I used to want to want to be, I guess this would be the place I would say Hello World. I'm a screenwriter now so let me just start off with a FADE IN: OVER BLACK CHYRON: HELLO WORLD! FADE TO BLACK or something similar in a 12 point Courier font in Final Draft. But I just wanted to be out and open about coming into screenwriting. My name is Jacob Gregory Dammons, I was born in 1998. I grew up in Michigan, moved with my mom to New Jersey in the middle of high school, graduated in 2016, and attempted to go to college that year. I only attended for a semester. I saw a private school with high employment rates post-graduation and figured that it didn't matter how much debt I racked up, if I got through school I could just pay it back because of these high employment rates. That made sense to me then. I dropped out after one semester. Afterwards I was mostly aimless for the next several years, moving around with disparate family members...
